:bulletred: UPDATE: Student is identified.

Folks. While I don't wish to sound as if that I am some desperate attention-getter, I need to highlight to you an important case that happened today in my university.

This following real-life story involves a professor in my university being stabbed, and a (suspected) Indonesian Chinese student being dead. And all this, just happened this morning, today...

Let me show the links to the case as below.

The Full Story

AN information engineering professor of the Nanyang Technological Universy is undergoing emergency operation in hospital after he was allegedly stabbed by a final year student in his office on Monday morning.

Shortly after the attack, the body of the fourth-year undergraduate, believed to be an Indonesian Chinese, was found at the foot of the seven-storey School of Electrical, Electronic and Engineering building. He is also believed to have slit his wrist earlier.

NTU students returning from their mid-term one-week break were horrified at the shocking attack which happened at about 10.30 am on the sixth floor, where the offices of the lecturers are located. The School of EEE is next to the School of Communications.

The attacked victim is identified as Prof Chan Kap Luk, who is is his 40s. He is said to be the supervisor of the student in a project. Police siad he suffered stab wounds on his back and arm and was rushed to the nearby National University Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition.

Trails of bloodstains were seen along the entrance to the lecturers' office, where a blood-soaked blue shirt was found.

An eye-witness, Mr Liu Yan, 24, a final-year electronic enginneeing student from China, said he and his friend were studying in the Techno Plaza on the fourth level, when he happened to look out of the window and saw a student with blood oozing from on his arm running across a bridge, which links the School of EEE and the plaza.

Next, he saw the student on the glass rooftop of the bridge and moments later, he was no longer there. The rooftop was splattered with blood, he said.

"I immediately called the police and then, with my friend, rushed down to check. We were shocked to see the student's body at the foot of the block." said Mr Liu.

In a statement, NTU said the next-of-kin of the student and professor have been notified.

NTU President Dr Su Guaning, said: 'The university is deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened. The matter will be investigated thoroughly. The university community will rally together at this difficult time and do our utmost to help the student's family, the professor and his family, and those traumatised by the incident.'

My Personal Thoughts

I am glad that despite the stressful conditions in the mind-twisted and severely warped education system in this place (it being Singapore), I have the conscience to go stab people, if I were EVER that undergraduate.

Why the heck would someone go stab his professor?

Information has it that this professor is the supervisor of that (dead) student. Specifically, the supervisor for his Final Year Project (FYP).

It's pretty obvious that the undergraduate is his final year - a fourth year student who is going to complete his course really DAMN soon. And that probably that he is already in his FINAL semester.

Perhaps that he didn't score in his project.

Perhaps the professor had a personal bias against him, and caused so much grief.

Or maybe it's because that student is a FOREIGNER, and that failures in overseas education is unlikely tolerable at all, compared to the locals here (the Singaporeans) who had rather say
"fuck it" and had the humility to retake modules whenever necessary.

But regardless, I see this as a purely "lose-lose" situation.

Why?

One, even if the student were to be so angry to a mental breaking point of "killing" that professor, he wouldn't be stupid enough to go stab him in the office. BROAD DAY LIGHT! How old is he? A fourth-year student.... that means that he is already in his 20s. A mature adult by then. How stupid could he go as far as to go upfront and knifed him?

Two, the thing is that the student did not successfully perform his full intention, that is to rid the professor. Instead, he merely stabbed him, cutted his own wrists and bled, jumped off onto the rooftop, and finally splattered himself.

He killed himself in that process, and thus any evidence of he to prove what his real intentions were, how did his background story develop into this murdering episode, are all gone. No trace could be found, other than questioning his peers in his FYP group, who are likely to be a bunch of Pile-Hole Drivers (Ph.D, for sarcasm reasons). And even so, with the student dead, the professor continues to live, and the possibility of he (the professor) lying to the "media" is very highly likely. He could go on and say, "Hey, I was trying to be good.", when the professor could possibly (behind the scenes) be going along the line of "I failed you and I shall tell the other profs about your failure, MUA HA HA~!" and start a "fail-you-all" epidemic.

Thirdly, and lastly, since the student (suspected to) kill himself, there's no way to testify against what evils or conflicts that professor could be up to. All shrouds is... in mystery. And so there is no way to give any form of compassion to that poor, stressed-out and completely broken-down student. But... nevertheless, even if he were alive now, he would have to go to jail. Life imprisonment in Singaporean context. However, pardoning and pleading might (I'd say, might) help to lessen that possible sentence to say, 20 years or more.

The education system in Singapore is perceived worldwide to be of high-class, top notch, and perhaps downright a perfect-to-follow model. I see otherwise.

Virginia had a case of shootouts, and some gun massacres. Here, in this little red (bloody) dot, we see a series of firsts.

We had a minster being set of fire by some mentally disabled person.

We got a woman being slashed before.

And now... this.

It's amusing to see that my local people here are living in a false sense of security in that they mistakenly believe that (disillusion) of being sheltered and safe from all kinds of threats. But what would happen if some disgruntled person comes up and stabs you, no reason whatsoever?

Violence is never an answer.

On the other hand, things are getting more complicated than what it seems. Nothing is perfectly black and white. For that, there might be justification to even the most of illogical actions and irrational behavior.

I can only hope that all local institutions to call off from work and school for ONE FULL DAY and do some self-reflection...

Wow... suddenly I'm so glad I didn't get in NTU :XD:

Yeah, there are lots of stress factors which could have made the student go insane. But personally I can't blame the student unless it's really his fault (like he procrastinated too long, etc)

Saddening. It's like all and every problem in our life can be solved by violence and committing suicide. :(

My opinion is perhaps he was stressed by the expectations he has to fulfill? He was known as a gifted student back in Indonesia.
